Our Work

Mississippi Trauma Care System Foundation’s (MTCSF) primary purposes are to lessen and minimize the cost burden to the trauma system and develop and administer a uniform, non-fragmented, inclusive statewide trauma care system by providing leadership and administrative services to promote and improve organizational efficiency.  By directly engaging trauma care system participants to facilitate quality assurance and performance improvement within trauma care facilities, MTCSF will provide solutions to strengthen data reporting, collection, analysis, and compliance across the trauma care system. The Foundation will support and manage trauma education and training at various levels of the trauma care system.

Our work supports the Mississippi Trauma Care System through educational opportunities, trauma center readiness, improving patient outcomes, injury prevention & public awareness.

Educational Opportunities

Care of the injured patient requires a high level of skill and knowledge to promote optimal outcomes. The Mississippi Trauma Care System Foundation (MTCSF) recognizes that critical thinking skills begin with foundational knowledge. Evidence-based training opportunities provide practitioners with the knowledge necessary to apply current best practices. Whether you practice in a small rural facility, a major trauma center, or at a remote field location removed from a healthcare facility, the MTCSF seeks to identify and facilitate access to learning that gives you the tools you need for best practices. Here you can find a one stop source for courses we have identified along with information regarding how we can assist in making them available to you. Educational opportunities are available for providers, trauma program managers, registrars, trauma nurses, and EMS.

Improve Patient Outcomes

MTCSF is devoted to improving patient outcomes by measuring, monitoring and analyzing processes and performance within the system of care. The MTCSF works with state agencies in the development of corrective action plans. Periodic reviews confirm the effectiveness and sustainability of the corrective action(s). MTCSF will strategically create and maintain a cooperative work environment which promotes accountability, trust, and respect for individual strengths and team growth while sharing a commitment to the Mississippi Trauma Care System. MTCSF operates in compliance with all Mississippi Trauma System Rules and Regulations and applicable Mississippi State Department of Health, Bureau of Acute Care Services Policies and Procedures. The MTCSF assist trauma centers in survey readiness and in maintaining their respective designation requirements with both general and focused reviews. Look for Survivor Stories on our site.

Truma Center Designations

Recognizing that care of the injured patient is complicated by the variety of injuries and available resources we also acknowledge that some common ground has been identified. Trauma Centers are designated by the level of care they can provide with available resources. The designation process assists in identifying processes that make the maximum use of those resources. The designation process can be cumbersome, but the goal is to utilize resources to their optimal level and ensure that essential tools are available and utilized. From the application for designation through the survey, and of course the corrective action plan as well, the Mississippi Trauma Care System Foundation is a resource to walk with you through the process.

Injury Prevention

Injury prevention tools help to avoid injuries and keep us safe in the event of a traumatic incident. Injury prevention tools are an essential way to decrease injury and death from a traumatic incident. Focus and strategies to combat trauma, the leading cause of death in ages 1-44, center around attention to injury prevention tools. Preventing an injury is easier then treating an injury. Injury prevention can be instituted in many forms such as education programs and laws. Motor vehicle injury preventions include automated red-light enforcement, sobriety checks, motorcycle helmet laws, seat belt laws and enforcement of child seats. Traumatic brain injury and concussion regulations have been mandated in many sports arenas to decrease short and long-term brain detriment. Mississippi Trauma Care System Foundation is passionate and proactive in educating injury prevention programs and tools. Trauma Symposiums

The Mississippi Trauma Care System Foundation host annual educational symposiums for the state trauma system of care. The symposium is a statewide educational opportunity for all trauma stakeholders. From pre-hospital through acute care and rehabilitation, the symposium trauma education and collaboration. Offered at nominal cost to the attendees, these events are primarily funded by the Mississippi Trauma Care Trust Fund. The symposium format facilitates participation, deliberations, and interactions in an organized manner with the goal of enhancing critical thinking skills and demonstrating hands-on applications to ensure the best outcomes for each trauma patient. In addition to continuing education credits, the symposium offers time for networking and making new friends and associates. The annual symposium is planned in May, in conjunction with National Trauma Awareness Month. (Link to Symposium page).

Emergency Preparedness

Planning for an emergency is essential to ensuring safety and decreasing dangers from small and large threats. Threats are all around us during our daily routines and travels. Emergency preparedness is also important to incorporate at the workplace with updates and alert methods in place. Being prepared for an emergency includes having alert systems, safeguards, supplies, and plans regarding possible hazards to you and your geographical location. Natural and manmade risks must be considered when planning preparedness strategies. Understanding possible threats to you and your location is an important step in the mitigation process for emergency preparedness. Mississippi Trauma Care System
